Bilzingsleben Tourist Information

Bilzingsleben was first mentioned in 1174. In the 12th century in the quarry Steinrinne and other quarries travertine was mined as a popular building material. In 1350 the village is loaned to Erfurt by the Counts Heinrich and Hermann von Beichlingen. In 1400-1450 the church is built, and in 1710 the first finds of bones are made in the travertine quarry, and by Prof.Dr. D. Mania human remnants were discovered on the hill Steinrinne, which are 350,000 years old.
