Bibinje Tourist Information
BIBINJE, a town and harbour in northern Dalmatia, 6 km southeast of Zadar; population 3,737. Economy is based on farming, fruit growing (olives, almonds, sour cherries, figs) and fishing. The harbour has a breakwater ending in a pier. Opposite of it is the anchorage for boats. The harbour is exposed to northerly, westerly and south-westerly winds; the bora is only moderate. Bibinje is located on a local road connected with the main road (M2, E65).
Betina was first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Bibanum. The parish church of St. Roch (Rocco) was built in 1673 on the location of an earlier structure and extended in 1854; features a classicist façade. Remains of antique structures have been found on the location of Banska Punta, and on Cape Pulja the remains of the St. John's church from 1376.
Bibinje provides good opportunities for a pleasant and peaceful rest. Close to it is a small cove with a nice sand beach and pine woods. Various water sports and recreation opportunities are offered. The neighbouring Sukosan features one of the largest and most modern nautical centres on the Adriatic - Zlatna Luka (Golden Harbour). Traditionally, Bibi-nje hosts the festival of harmony-singing group called Raspivano Bibinje (Bibinje Singing). Another important feast is St. Roch's Day (16th of August), patron saint of Bibinje.
