Berndorf Tourist Information
The picturesque town of Berndorf nestles between the Trumer lakes and the gentle hills of the Oichen Valley.
Already around 1700 Berndorf was a popular place of pilgrimage. Then the pilgrims prayed for protection and help to the Glorious Madonna of Berndorf, as it is still done today. From 1829 to 1835 Franz Xaver Gruber, the composer of the world-famous song "Silent Night", lived in our town, working as a teacher, sexton and organist. A commemorative plaque as well as the yearly "Franz Xaver Gruber-singing" at Christmas remind us of him.
