Benalto Alberta Tourist Information

This hamlet located 32 km. (20 mi.) west of Red Deer was first established as a Canadian Pacific Railway station in 1911. The descriptive name was given to the station by one of the CPR surveyors. "Ben" is Gaelic for hill, and "Alto" is Latin for high – the hybrid of these words was the perfect name for a station on a hill overlooking the railway tracks. The hamlet grew and Benalto’s first post office opened in 1916.
