Bednja Tourist Information

BEDNJA, a village in the region of Hrvatsko Zagorje, 6 km northwest of Lepoglava; elevation 247 m; population 773. First mentioned in the 13th century (Bedna). Chief occupation is farming. Bednja is located at the intersection of regional roads Lepoglava - state border.

Situated at the Bednja river, Bednja is a secluded place - an oasis of peace between Lepoglava and Trakoscan. Along with valuable sacral heritage, the village features well preserved old Zagorje-style houses, partly covered by straw, as well as a two-storey manor-house from 1799. Two old lime-trees in front of the parsonage are protected nature monuments. The nearby mountains add to a unique experience of this village, rendering Bednja a special charm and beauty. Visitor opportunities include hiking, walking, cycling, hunting and fishing in the immediate vicinity of the village. There is also a variety of traditional specialities offered in Bednja. The main tourist attractions are the ancient customs of the Bednja wedding, performed on various occasions.
