Batumi
Batumi with a population of 140 thousand for the first time was mentioned in chronicles in 11th century as a fortress on the south-eastern coast of the Black sea. After 300 years of Turkish power Batumi was ruled by Russia since 1878 and became the capital of Autonomous Republic of Ajaria in 1921. The present Batumi is one of the main seaports in Georgia. There are theatres, museums and aquarium-dolphinarium in the city.
