Baske Ostarije Tourist Information

Mountain village; it got its name in Venetian time, when the passing caravans searched for a place to stay at this important Velebit pass (It. osteria: inn). The elevation of 924 m makes Baske Ostarije a very attractive mountain place. Numerous inviting mountain peaks can be reached from here, especially Sadikovac (1,286 m), Ljubicko Brdo (1,320 m) and Metla (1,288 m). Across Stupacinovo, you can get to Premuzic trail, the most attractive longitudinal tourist trail on Velebit. Due to its specific climate, Baske Ostarije is known both as a pass of bora winds and a sunny pass. Because of a high number of clear days and a high percentage of the ozone in the air, it is also an esteemed climatic resort. The completion of Hotel Velebno rendered Baske Ostarije a favourite winter resort for winter sports lovers.

BASKE OSTARIJE, a village in the western part of central Lika, 12 km from Karlobag, on the regional road to Gospic; elevation 924 m; population 48. Near Baske Ostarije are two important mountain road passes: Ostarijska Vrata (928 m) and Baske Ostarije (955 m).
