Barreiras Tourist Information
Barreiras
From the small village of São João de Barreiras, on the XVIII century, to the "soy capital" that it is today, the city of Barreiras - regional urban center and the entry to the western Bahia - had very little progress in two centuries, but nowadays it is known as an important agricultural center and the biggest grain producer of brazilian northeast. Following its economical progress, Barreiras is now developing a good ecotourism infrastructure.
The city offers several options for the tourist. Who likes sports can chose among canoeing, jet-skiing, swimming and trekking. Those who are more interested on cultural activities also have a lot to see in the town. Depending on the time of the year, it is possible to witness typical festivals like Divino Espírito Santo and São João.
