Barranquilla tourist information
Barranquilla is known as Colombia's golden port. It is the most important commercial city of the Caribbean since it is the main maritime port in the country. Its nearness to the mouth of the Magdalena river has made it possible for Barranquilla, the capital of the state of Atlántico, to become the main maritime port in the country. The location of large industries, commerce and communication media make this the most important city on the Colombian Caribbean. Its hotel infrastructure offers visitors all the conveniences of a large city and the Hotel Prado is a well-known landmark. Among the places to visit are: the Pumarejo bridge, over the Magdalena river which is the longest in Colombia; the Metropolitan soccer and athletics stadium; its large cathedral; the Amira de la Rosa theater; its traditional neighborhoods of beautiful Republican architecture; the Anthropological Museum; the Museum of Natural History and the Museo Romántico. As Colombia's number one port, Barranquilla annually attracts thousands of visitors who attend different commercial events and are guaranteed by its modern infrastructure a peaceful and agreeable stay. Besides, the services provided by the city's prestigious hotels, there are also available conference rooms in the Corporación Luis Eduardo Nieto Arteta, located in the Plaza of the Aduana; the Cámara de Comercio and the Jumbo of the Country Club. Barranquilla is well-known for its famous Carnival which starts with the "Battle of the flowers", a popular parade of musical groups and dances of African origin such as the Torito, the Diablo, the Garabato, the Congo and the Pilanderas; and it ends with the symbolic funeral of "Joselito Carnival". This carnival is a tremendous display of colorful parties, joy and originality, coupled with the ingenuity and spontaneity which characterizes the Barranquilleros.
