Bamberg Ontario Tourist Information
At Bamberg there are interesting things to see. John Moser's name and the date 1863 can be found on the house on the northwest corner. The first settlers at Bamberg arrived from Bavaria about 1842. The Mosers, Kieswetters and others, all Catholics from Alsace-Lorraine, and other German states settled in the village and points east and west on the Third Line.
On Regional Road 10, the Trail continues north out of Bamberg and crosses the Hesson Strasse (Township Road 5). Hessian Lutherans settled on this line (the Hessian Road).
Most of the early families have moved but about half a mile west of the Trail. St. John's Lutheran Church and accompanying cemetery, attest to the efforts of these early settlers to preserve their Lutheran heritage. The church is still opened for services four times each year. Continuing north on Regional Road 10, the Trail turns right onto Regional Road 15 and travels east.
