Artern Tourist Information
Artern, an ancient Salt Town, lies at the edge of the Thuringian Basin. It was first mentioned in 786 as Aratora. Functioning as an administrational centre many institutions are situated in this town (a fine payment office is under construction). Directly next to the Salt Collector Park there is an amusement bath in beautiful surroundings. The old salt obtaining house with its chimney is still there to visit, reminding of the tradition of salt obtaining in Artern. Regular cultural highlights take place in the newly restored Veits Church (13th century). Along the Borlach walking trail (named after Borlach, constructor of the salt collectors) you will reach the Jungkens View Tower on the Weinberg, offering you a superb view onto the town Artern. Numerous other sights in the Kyffhäuser region are easily reached from Artern.
