Cloaked in green alfalfa and golden wheat to the south, and dotted with farms and ranches to the north, the Spallumcheen Valley boasts one of the most beautiful agricultural areas in BC. Explore the valley in-depth with a hike along the Rose Swanson Hiking Trail and a visit to the Otter Lake/Hayes Wildlife & Ecological Reserve, or arrange a dig in the only significant opal deposit in Canada.

Located in the heart of the Spallumcheen valley, "where agriculture meets industry," Armstrong attracts visitors with its rich heritage. Snap pictures of the flower-adorned railway that winds through the center of town, or stroll past the historic downtown buildings, including the Olde Schoolhouse, and the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Museum & Art Gallery. Tours of the Village Cheese Factory, local llama and miniature animal farms, and BC's only flour and cereal mill also lend insight into one of Armstrong's most important industries: agriculture. Then, at the end of August, kick up your heels at Armstrong’s Interior Provincial Exhibition, the second largest agricultural fair in BC. With live entertainment, midway rides, a Canadian Pro Stampede Rodeo, horticultural and craft displays, and a home show, this event draws thousands of visitors from all over. It’s a great time to learn more about the area and the perfect opportunity to sample some of that famous Armstrong cheese!
