Annaberg-buchholz Tourist Information

This town is the "mining queen" and was named after Anna, the patron saint of miners. Since the discovery of silver in the region around Annaberg-Buchholz more than 500 years ago, the town has kept up its mining traditions more effectively than any other. Other branches of industry have evolved from mining: the craft of making trimmings - the manufacture of ornamental ribbons and textile borders, lace making and woodcarving. Visitors can find out more about these crafts at the Ore Mountain Museum. Adam Ries was probably the towns most famous citizen. In a little house on Johannisgasse, the mathematical genius taught his students how to do their sums from 1523
