Angelroda Tourist Information

This small typically Thuringian village has maintained its original character. Its landmark is a rail viaduct of 26 m height, which was inaugurated in 1879. The beauty of the area attracted already the barons of Witzleben, who built their summer residence in the form of the castle Elgersburg. In the former farm and housekeeping buildings you will find the newly opened museum, displaying everything from the wash-board to the laced underwear of the period, and portraying the history of the village. Worth a visit are also the church, the Schuhmannshaus and the Mämpelhaus. Angelroda is an ideal starting point for wonderful rambles in the wooded surroundings. Worth an excursion are the karst holes, called "Kammerlöcher" with their mysterious shapes. They are meant to have housed little mischievous dwarves.
