Altersbach Tourist Information

Altersbach was first mentioned in 1340 as "Altusbach" as an early settlement in the district of Schmalkalden. It was the mining industry in the neighbouring Arzberg that characterised the development of the settlement. Apart from farming the trade of forges was flourishing during the 19th century. Following that period most people started working as industrial workers in the neighbouring Steinbach-Hallenberg. This idyllic little village is ideal for ramblers and nature lovers seeking peace and relaxation.
