Allinge Tourist Information
The town Allinge-Sandvig welcomes you with open arms. When you visit the twin towns you will very soon sense the special combination of fantastic nature, historic urban environments and the natural hospitality, which comes from the more than 100 year old experience as tourist destination.
The old houses and streets of Allinge are situated picturesquely on the cliffs around the harbour, which was blasted into the granite right where the natural harbour of the town had been for centuries.
Today, you here find a lively holiday town and a commercial centre for Northern Bornholm. In the last couple of years, a very nice and adjoining centre has been crated in the area between Kirkepladsen, Lindeplads and the harbour. In this area you find many shops, cafés, restaurants and a smokehouse. During the summer, the fair days make the town even more busy and lively.
At the harbour, you find many yachts and the pilot boat is situated in the northern basin when it is not at sea to bring the pilot to one of the many large ships, which are passing through the Hammerwater. The boat to Christiansø makes the old harbour full of life.
Do not miss a walk in the old town of Allinge. Originally, the town was a concentration of farms along the coast and later on, the big merchant’s houses came along, which you can see in Løsebækgade. Here, you also find the unusual and exciting coast path, which goes up and down through the cliffs from Allinge to Sandkås. Right before the path, you will see Løsebækstranden – a fine little beach, which is an oasis for the people of Allinge on a hot summer day. The first atelier of the famous painter Olaf Rude (1886-1957) was in a small house right down to the Løsebækstranden. Many of his paintings show the landscape and the town, Allinge.
Around the harbour and the centre of Allinge, you find many exciting restaurants and cafés, which are offering something for every taste and on the harbour, behind the pilot station, you may be tempted by the fresh fish specialities from the smokehouse.
The church of Allinge is situated beautifully on Kirkepladsen. It originates from the 16th century. At that time it was a chapel, but today, the church is a result of many rebuildings. 1992, the church was restored very beautifully inside.
The local anglers hang out with their boats at Kampeløkke Harbour, which is situated a bit north of the large harbour. The small harbour is from 1968 and was extended with an extra basin in 1977. In Bornholm, it is a tradition to angle your own fish and this applies especially the people of Allinge, who are using the boats in the Kampeløkke Harbour very diligently.
The area of Allinge-Sandvig has attracted people for thousands of years and this you can see and feel on the rocky surface of Madsebakke. Here, between the two towns you find the largest rock-engravings of Denmark. Signs of the sun, cup marks and marine figures are carved into the granite once in the Bronze Age between 1800 and 500 years before the birth of Christ.
Along Havnegade and Strandvejen, the towns of Allinge and Sandvig are almost grown together. Another connection between the towns is the bicycle path along the old railway, which runs in a larger distance from the coast.
