Alastaro Tourist Information
Alastaro, located in the middle of the fertile Loimijoki valley, 75 km Northeast of Turku, is economically and culturally linked with South-western Finland, although provincially it is part of Lower Satakunta. The golden grain fields are characteristic of the traditional landscape of the area. Even today the economic life of the municipality is dominated by agriculture. In addition to agriculture, the people of Alastaro work in forestry and livestock farming. The municipality is home to the largest hen and pig farms in Finland. There are also enterprises in different fields. The municipality is home to one of the most important motor sport centres in Finland, which is an interesting contrast to the idyllic quiet countryside.
There are good road connections to all directions with vt2 as a natural choice when arriving from the metropolitan area. The nearest airport is in Turku, and the nearest airfield in Oripää (14 km).
Alastaro is one of the longest inhabited areas in the Loimaa region. One of the most significant ancient findings is a 3000 year old clay corded ware dish, and the first Bronze Age discovery in Alastaro is the mound of stones in Vaaravuori that proved to be a 2850-2940 year old grave.
In 1688 Alastaro became a dependant parish, and in 1869 it became a completely independent municipality.
Alastaro has a population of about 3000. Considering the size of the municipality, the services of Alastaro are excellent. The municipality is especially well known for the services it provides to old people. In addition, education, health care, day care services and leisure services in Alastaro are excellent.
