In the second half 13. Century created the Schauenburger count many farmer villages. At that time probably also the village Woldenhorn developed. Together with the villages Ahrensfelde, Meilsdorf and Beimoor came it 1327 by an exchange of territory of the counts von Schauenburg to the Cistercian monastery pure field. The village Woldenhorn was from 1327 to approximately 1550 seat of the Klostervogtei. 1441 bought the monastery the village Buenningstedt in addition. By the secularization of the monastery the Danish king Friedrich became IITH owner of this area and left it 1567 his field gentleman Daniel Rantzau. Already two years after Daniel Rantzau fell with the siege of the Swedish fortress being castle. His inheritance, Peter Rantzau, intensified the field and dairy farming and achieved an economic upswing. He built the lock Ahrensburg around 1595 as water castle as well as the castle church and the two numbers of the 24?Gottesbuden?. The establishment of the Gottesbuden - dwellings for older humans - crowns at the same time social work of the nachreformatorischen time working into the present.
Name giver for around 1595 the built lock is?Arx the Arnsburga?, also castle Arnesvelde mentioned. By this castle plant today still remainders are in the forest Hagen recognizable. The today's coat of arms of the city shows this castle in the upper coat of arms field.

The completion of the railway line Hamburg Luebeck with the new station Ahrensburg and the land municipality order of 1867 let the names of the lock turn into on the village Woldenhorn. In June 1869 the land municipality Ahrensburg developed from the property village. The new railway line favoured the development of the municipality Ahrensburg to a popular residence before the gates of Hamburg.
