Norrkoping tourist information
Norrköping is Sweden´s eighth largest city and lies 1,5 hours south of Stockholm. The city is situated on the east coast of Sweden and is easy to reach by car, air and, of course, by train.
Norrköping is a city steeped in history which the more than 3000 rockcarvings at Himmelstalund clearly show. Some of these carvings are older than 3000 years.
Through the heart of Norrköping flows the Motala River - Motala Ström. This is where the industrial centre of the city thrived. Instead of being demolished it has been preserved and depicts the Norrköping of old with its cotton mills and paper mill. A number of these buildings have not only been preserved but now house the industries of tomorrow, for example electronics and IT businesses. A subsidiary of Linköpings University is also situated in this area. All these buildings have been meticulously restored and are well worth a visit.
Why not follow the Göta Canal - Göta Kanal - through the diverse cultural landscape and go ashore on one of the many islands in the beautiful archipelago. These islands are an oasis of tranquillity and beauty.
