Jonkoping Sweden
Jönköping has some 118,500 inhabitants and is one of the ten largest municipalities in Sweden. The city, which was founded in the thirteenth century, has a strategic location in the south of Sweden. Rail and road communications give fast access to Stockholm (330 km) Gothenburg (140 km) and Copenhagen (290 km). Jönköping Airport has direct connections to both Stockholm and Copenhagen.
Jönköping is a leading transport, logistics and communications centre and a centre for exhibitions and trade fairs. The Elmia Exhibition Centre is, among other events, internationally known for the Elmia Subcontractor and Elmia Wood trade fairs. Excellent facilities are available for meetings and conferences.
The region has some 9, 600 registered companies, most of which are small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. But there are also many large international groups and companies, such as IKEA, Electrolux, SAAB, VSM Group, Fläkt Woods, Stora Enso Packaging, Kinnarps, Smurfit Munksjö, ROL and ITAB based in Jönköping.
Jönköping University, which has some 9,000 students, is organised as a foundation comprising four independent schools: Jönköping International Business School, School of Engineering, School of Education and Communication and School of Health Sciences, all centrally located on a city campus in close connection to Jönköping Science Park.
Jönköping is the provincial capital and the administrative centre for the whole region. Central agencies are also based here, among them the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the Board of Forestry. For many centuries, legal and judicial authorities have been located in Jönköping. These today include the District Court, the Court of Appeal, the Administrative Court of Appeal and the National Courts Administration.
There are a wide variety of cultural venues, theatres, museums, among them the Match Museum, many cinemas, a modern concert hall, art galleries and a range of cultural arrangements and events.
Leisure and sports facilities are available to suit every taste: four golf courses, a racket sports centre, ice rinks, indoor adventure baths, sandy beaches in the city centre, and nature trails and paths within easy distance etc.
