Boden tourist information
Boden is beautifully situated on the shores of the Lule River. The surrounding hills, forests, the placid river and outdoor-recreation area Björknäs give the town its special character. In Boden, small-town charm is combined with good service. Health care, the railway and, above all, the military, played an important part in the development of this modern community during the 1900s. In the vicinity of Boden, a group of hunter-gatherers built a dwelling some 7,000 years ago, which they used as a base for fishing and seal hunting. Since then, the coastline has moved 37 km southeast to the county town of Luleå. Today, barely 30,000 people live here, in an area the size of the county of Blekinge.
