Nh Condor Hotel description
Welcome to the Nh Condor Hotel in Barcelona - A three star hotel in the upper part of the city, renovated in 2003. Very comfortable rooms, particularly the suites are a give away for the price: A standard double room with a king bed with a separate small living room, with a TV set in each room.
This hotel if you don't know it, most probably, it would not be the one to choose off a list because you would think is just a three star not centrally located... But it is an excellent hotel, with all modern confort, reasonably priced, and very well situated away from downtown noise and at the same time, walking distance to the core of the city. In less than 15 minutes walking you can be right in Paseo de Gracia and while you get there you will be passing by many, many interesting shops and restaurants. Then at night, when you don't want to go to far for dinner, there are a few good restaurants not more than two blocks away that surely will more than please you for less than you planned to spend on dinner. An excellent choice for example, would be "La Bodega" they serve typical Catalonian food (have to reserve because it is always full.) Another tip for less fancy but very good, is El Pescadito, ask at front desk for directions to both.
The Passeig de Gràcia is Barcelona’s most elegant avenue and one of the best architectural walks in the city. The quality and quantity of modernist buildings is unrivalled, not only in Barcelona but in any city of the world. It is the defining avenue of the 19th century Eixample, a grid like "extension" to the city that was planned by engineer Ildefons Cerdà whose original plan was observed, but not in its entirety. Cerdà’s plan called for impressive inner squares and gardens for each city block and these were never built.
The Passeig de Gràcia was from the beginning designed to be Barcelona’s Grand Avenue. It’s origins can be traced back to Roman times when it was a path that linked to the Via Augusta. In medieval times the city’s door to this road was the Portal dels Orbs (blind people’s gate), today the Portal del Angel pedestrian shopping area.
