Forfar tourist information
Once the centre of the Pictish kingdom, Forfar, today, is a Royal burgh and prosperous market town.
Set between two lochs, Forfar offers a traditional charm, with many small shops for visitors to discover, and local produce and specialities such as the famous Forfar "Bridie" - a meat-filled pastry traditionally eaten by farm workers.
The town has an interesting history, which is well illustrated by the Meffan Gallery & Museum with its cobble stone vennel, and insight into the lives linen makers; also explore the history of Forfar's grim 17th century witchhunt, where those convicted were executed! Local art is well represented at the nearby Oathlaw Pottery and its gallery shop, which sells a selection of stoneware and contemporary paintings.
