Iasi Romania
IASI is situated in the northeastern part of Romania, and is bounded on the east by Moldova. The southward-flowing Prut River marks the county´s eastern border with Moldova, and the Siret River drains the hilly terrain of the county to the south. Iasi county was a part of feudal Moldavia. Iasi city is the county capital and has chemical, textile, and food industries. Iasi County is the second largest county in Romania, representing 3.5% of Romania´s population. Iasi holds the 2nd place among the other 39 counties of Romania, as for population density (148.9 per square Km). With a patrimony comprising many archaeological sites, memorial houses remaining of Romanian great writers such as Eminescu, Creanga, Alecsandri, Sadoveanu, about 6900 historical; and architectural monuments, precious vestiges of Romanian culture and civilization, the county of Iasi is considered a "museum" county in Romania. The large and diversified folklore and ethnographic treasure, natural reservation and resources (Repedea, Valea Lunga, mineral springs in Nicolina, Strunga etc.), the famous vineyards in Cotnari ( the 14th century) as well as its position of a railway junction have favored sustained tourist activity with many possibilities of optimization and diversification.
