Constanta tourist information
Constanta Romania
CONSTANTA, 250km east of Bucharest, is Romania´s main harbour town and gateway to the beach resorts north and south of town. During socialist rule, Romania´s beaches were the meeting place between East and West - here East Germans met their West German relatives, and Romanians could meet foreigners without too much hassles. Now, tourism from abroad has dropped and Romanians make up the larger part of visitors. Only a few hotels and restaurants have since been upgraded enough to meet Western standards - we´ve scoured the promenades to find them for you. Remember to dial 041 before these numbers of you´re calling from outside the Constanta region. It´s easy to go astray when driving to Constanta from the centre of Bucharest, as there are hardly any signs telling you which way the highway is. From Piata Universitatii, go straight east down B-dul Carol I towards Pantelimon. On the ring road, you can take a short stretch of the A3 highway, or settle for the old road towards Fundulea. The road is fine until Fetesti, where you drive over the 17km long, bumpy ´European Standard´ highway, for which you even have to pay a small fee.
