Rzeszow tourist information
The 7th century Ruthenian settlement was captured by king Casimir the Great in mid-14th century and became known by its present name. The city's highlights include an early Baroque Bernardine Monastery, with the beautifully furnished church and mausoleum of the Ligeza family. Another architectural gem is the Lubomirski Palace and adjacent 17th century castle. Also worth seeing is the Market Square, currently undergoing restoration.
There are numerous interesting palaces and manors in the area surronding Rzeszow. Among them are the internationally known palace-park complex in Lancut, once the residence of the Lubomirski and Potocki families. The magnificent, richly furnished palace interiors, together with the unique coach-house and old park are sure to be a delight for the visitors. Nearby Lezajsk boasts a Bernardine Basilica with one of the largest and most beautifully designed church organs in Europe; organ music festivals are held here annually.
Further east one happens upon the picturesque fortress city of Przemysl, once the third mightiest citadel in Europe. The city's numerous churches and the Kazimierzowski Castle give it a unique and unmistakeable flavor. About 10 miles up the San river tourists can visit the Krasiczyn park-palace complex considered, along with Wawel Castle and the nearby Baranow Sandomierski Castle, to be a real pearl of the Polish Renaissance architecture.
