Huizen tourist information
Huizen is a sprawling town on the banks of the Gooimeer (Lake of Gooi), which used to be part of the IJsselmeer. From early spring until late autumn, the waterfront promenade is positively buzzing with sports activities. A large number of restaurants and snack bars can be found along the beach on the shallow banks of the Gooimeer.
The new area of Huizen is ideal for surfers and small children. The old village and harbour lend a glimpse into Huizen’s past. The old harbour and the marina, Jachthaven ’t Huizerhoofd, are accessible via the sea-lane and the pier jutting into the Gooimeer.
In 2002, the old harbour was renovated and now accommodates berthing for pleasure yachts and the ferry between Huizen and Almere. The harbour merges into various recreational facilities, including an indoor go-kart circuit, an outdoor skiing hill, an indoor sports and party complex, a laser game hall, an indoor bowling hall and various catering facilities.
Additionally, Huizen offers a dancing, a cultural centre, a theatre, a cinema and a swimming pool. The inviting Town Hall displays the history of the Gooi area and its people via painted panels by the Dutch graphic artist Eppo Doeve, who is famous for designing the 1970’s Dutch bank notes.
