Hoofddorp tourist information
Hoofddorp, located in the heart of Haarlemmermeer, literally means ‘main village’. However, when you visit it you will soon find out it’s not a village anymore. The new, partially roofed shopping centre radiates the allure of a city. The pleasant difference is that there are plenty of parking spaces. The old city hall in the centre houses a small theatre.
Adjacent to the new city hall, the De Meerse theatre offers an entertainment hall with 500 seats, an exhibition space, a theatre cafe and meeting facilities. For culture buffs, we would recommend the Historical Museum Haarlemmermeer. This museum uses two interactive presentations to tell the story of the rather recent history of the Haarlemmermeer Polder, from its creation in 1852 until today. Hoofddorp is a good choice for nature lovers. Walk or cycle through the Haarlemmermeer Forest, which served as the decor for the Floriade, the internationally renowned flower show, in 2002.
Keen gardeners visit the 1 hectare landscaped gardens, heemtuin (garden for indigenous plants) en greenhouses of De Heimanshof.
