Comment: We stayed at the Amstelzicht for three days in August, 2005. I left after the third day because of the dirty and noisy rooms and also an unprovoked tirade by one of the co-owners. I've never been so badly treated in any hotel -- and I've stayed in hotels all over the world. When I checked out after three days, I spoke with a co-owner, who told me that because I had made him so terribly angry he intended to keep my entire American Express deposit of two thousand dollars, even if to do it he had to leave the room empty for the next two weeks (illegal). I laughed at him. I didn't think this was possible. It was. American Express Customer Service were sympathetic but told me that since I had already paid in advaqnce and signed the slip, they couldn't help me. Even though what the Amstelzicht did to us is illegal according to the laws of Holland, we don't have the money to pursue this matter in Dutch courts. But please be warned. Do NOT trust the owners of the Hotel Amstelzicht.
