Zomba tourist information
Zomba is visited by tourists mainly because of Zomba Mountain which provides spectacular scenery on the drive up/down & from varous view points.
There is challenging or easy hiking for the more energetic. High up the mountain is lush forest, orchids, a beautiful new reservoir, a trout farm, a good hotel, and some cottages and two campsites.
There is a good hotel in the town and some economical places, one near the bus station.
A walk through the upper town reveals some old colonial houses reminding us of Zomba’s role as Malawi’s earlier capital & known then as the most beautiful capital in the old British Empire.
Don’t miss a visit to the market.
There are two banks, a post office, a hospital and two supermarkets.
The historic Gymkhana Club, with its nine hole golf course, is a pleasant place to relax. Zomba is home to Malawi’s first University.
