St Helier tourist information
The greatest concentration of people live in St. Helier whose busy streets, squares, lanes and pedestrianised areas create a pleasant atmosphere for browsing and buying. During the summer, St.Helier comes alive with a varied and original programme of street entertainment.
Celebrate Jersey’s most beloved of animals – the Jersey Cow - by visiting the life size bronze of a group of Jersey cattle recently commissioned that is situated in West Square. Or pass a leisurely morning by stimulating your senses at the central market – housed in an ornate glass-roofed building where you can find fresh fruit and vegetables, fine butchers, bakers and delicatessens. The Beresford Fish Market next door was established in 1842 and all of Jersey’s fine fish and seafood can be found there – but you must get up early, the catch comes in at 7:30 am!
When done with shopping, amuse yourself at the Jersey Opera House or the Jersey Arts Centre two of many venues showing first rate theatrical and musical productions, or spend an evening enjoying the visiting bands and artists in Howard Davies Park. Remember to check out the current events – you might be lucky and be in town in time to enjoy one of Jersey’s 25 major festivals.
