Comment: Compare prices with: First of all, to be fair, let me say that I have not actually STAYED at the Duodo Palace hotel -- and the rooms themselves are most likely perfectly fine. Here is the story... The day before arriving in Venice, I checked on Trip Advisor for a hotel -- and saw that Duodo Palace got good reviews. I looked on their web page, and it clearly showed an available "Mid-Week Special" of 178 Euros. Seemed like a good deal. I wasn't exactly sure how to book it. At some other hotels I have stayed at, they have you do a normal booking, and then specify you want the special in the "Notes." That is what I did. The next day, I arrived at the hotel and was informed that there was no such special, and I would be charged the full 230 Euros. If I had any problems with that, I would have to talk to the manager the next day. OK, in that case I'll find a less expensive room elsewhere. At that point, I was rudely informed that there was a 48-hour cancellation policy, and I would be charged the full 230 Euro rate. If I had a problem with that, talk to the manager the next day. So I came back the next day, and the manager similarly insisted that the full amount had been charged, and it's really too bad I hadn't stayed because they were out of "deluxe" rooms and would have upgraded us to a suite. No offer of refunding the 230 Euros. No offer to stay that night for free. No apologies. Nothing. 230 Euros for a room I hadn't stayed in. I am now in the process of challenging the charge through Visa. I am really irritated at this. I believe they could have handled the situation much better, kept us happy, and still made their money. They could have offered an upgraded room, a reduced rate over multiple days -- or they could have simply honored the reduced rate. Instead, they treated us rudely, offered us nothing, and charged 230 Euros for a room we had not occupied. I would suggest instead staying at a hotel where the staff care about their customers.
