San Giuliano Terme tourist information
Located on the south-west slopes of Monte Pisano between the river Serchio and the Arno on a plain rich in nature and history, archaeological finds, during excavation in certain caves, have proved that San Giuliano was already quite densely inhabited. Noted for its thermal baths since the Roman age when Pliny the Elder described it as aquae pisanae and again mentioned at the beginning of the 11th century, it was restored by the Pisan Republic at the beginning of the 12th century. In the 1800s various noted personalities, including Lord Byron and Percy Byshe Shelley, Vittorio Alfieri, Luigi Bonaparte and Paolina Borghese, frequented the baths.
