Ravello is like an open terrace facing the sea, a point from which we can appreciate scenery of unique natural beauty.From its dizzy heights, the Amalfi Coast has a dream - like quality. It was a bustling centre of commercial activity. Between the XI and XII century trade was mainly with the orient and Sicily and this is evident from the arab - siculan architecture of many of the buildings here.The were generally built by wealthy merchant families. Ravello possesses many building of high artistic merit. The cathedral dates back to XII century. Its facade has two smaller entrances situated either side of a marble main portal doors, which are in bronze, the work of Barisano of Trani and date back to the year 1179. The XIII century bell - tower is decorated with many ornamental arches. The climate, the lush vegetation and modern hotels render Ravello an ideal base for an unforgettable holiday.
