I lived there for a year while stationed at Aviono AB. (USAF) The people couldn't be nicer. Being 10 miles from the base many spoke english very well. We lived at the Hotel Santin. The hotel was very very clean and has a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor. The hotel is centrally located one block from the train station, autostrata and most of the restaurants. I would recommend Stefanoe's located right behind the hotel. Stefano and his wife were like family. One place I'm looking forward to returning is Il Napo's winery. It's located on the way to Aviono and make sure you have a driver because the owner will not let you leave without trying several types to make sure you choose the right one for you. I think she was just lonely and wanted the company. Pordenone is 45 minutes from the beach and 30 minutes from the mountains. 15,000' GREAT skiing! Being an Air Traffic Controller I loved to drive up the mountain and watch the Air Force jet flying near the base 15,000' below. It was truly the best time of my life. I can't wait to get back.
