Motta Sant'Anastasia (Zip Code 95040) is 183 Km. distant from Agrigento, 117 Km. from Caltanissetta, 13 Km. from Catania, which is the province it belongs to, 87 Km. from Enna, 109 Km. from Messina, 240 Km. from Palermo, 117 Km. from Ragusa, 71 Km. from Siracusa, 339 Km. from Trapani.
The municipality counts 9.420 inhabitants, its surface measures 3.573 hectares, and its population density counts 264 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises over a flat area, 275 meters above the sea-level.

A charming agricultural center, Motta Sant'Anastasia boasts a rich production of grapes, olives, wheat, and almonds, that can be tasted during Motta's annual Fair held in the month of August. Cattle breeding, as well sheep and goat farms, are flourishing because of the numerous pasture areas. The characteristic handicrafted objects are those made of wrought iron.
The name Motta derives from the name of the homonymous mountain the first inhabited center rose on. The appositive "Sant'Anastasia" was added subsequently, in honor of the saint the town was dedicated to. The suburb was built in the surroundings of a pre-existent castle, that was rebuilt by will of the Norman count Ruggero d'Altavilla, who then bestowed it to the bishop of Catania. Throughout the years, it belonged to several feudal lords, such as Russo, Perolo, Ruiz de Lihari, and ultimately Moncada, to whom it remained until the abolition of the feudal rights.
The most interesting monuments, architecturally speaking, are the Norman Castle, erected during the XI century, preserving numerous embattled tops, and the Chiesa Madre built during the XII century, characterized by two domes with semicircular chapels.
