Cervia tourist information
The municipality of Cervia is located in the southern part of the Province of Ravenna, stretching along the Adriatic Coast on a flat territory. It borders with the Municipality of Ravenna to the North West, Cesena to the South-West, and Cesenatico to the South (these two latter belong to the Forli Cesena Province). The western area of this territory is mainly dedicated to agriculture, with typical crops employed for cereals, sows, vineyards, vegetables and fruit.
Not far from the coast are the ancient saltpans, which were already flourishing in Roman times. These represent, together with the pinewood, a priceless ecological and naturalistic value. The development of tourism here has been favoured by several elements : the 10 km-long beach characterized by fine sand and a shallow-water sea, a favorable climate, the closeness to other important localities of Emilia Romagna and good road connections.
This territory is crossed by the river Savio, which flows into the Adriatic sea and marks the borders with Ravenna's municipality. In addition, the territory is furrowed by a thick net of canals, brooks and drainpipes, which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s: both contributed to the land reclamation and water regulation for agricultural aims but also to the implementation of the salt production.
The port-canal divides the coast-line into two parts: Milano Marittima is to the North and Cervia, Pinarella and Tagliata are to the South of it. The southern part is characterized by a long pinewood band of 26 hectares.
