Arenzano tourist information
This ancient fishing village has gradually turned into a seaside resort and has been a fashionable tourist attraction for over a century. The opening of the Grand Hotel in 1915 on the elegant seaside promenade gave the finishing touch to a location that was already luxurious and exclusive, with numerous villas and prestigious residences, such as Villa Gramatica and Villa Figlioli or magnificent Villa Pallavicini and Negrotto Cambiaso Park, which is a venue for concerts and cultural events in the summer. The Serra Monumentale, a splendid conservatory, is a remarkable specimen of turn-of the-century architecture.
Cap San Martino promontory marks out the far western end of the large bay in which the town is situated. The local pine and beech woods and Mediterranean maquis are the characteristic vegetation of land lying close to the Appennine mountain range, which comes closest to the sea at this point: panoramic viewing areas, such as Monte Reiza (1000 m), Monte Rama (1148 m) and Monte Argentea (1082 m), are therefore never far away. Some tourist routes also pass through Beigua Park.
The Santuario del Bimbo di Praga is one of the most popular sanctuaries in Liguria; not far away are the Santuario delle Olivete (1700) and the church of SS. Nazario e Celso (1600), which is built on the site of a former Capuchin monastery and flanked by the Santa Chiara Oratory. Also worth visiting are the churches of San Martino, San Sebastiano and San Bartolomeo (in Terralba).
Arenzano has some very advanced sporting facilities, where numerous sports can be practised, ranging from swimming and horse-riding to sailing, tennis and football. There is a covered swimming pool, a multi-purpose sports centre, and an 18-hole golf course. The water sports centre located in an area called Pineta is open all year round and offers you the chance to hire equipment and attend courses to obtain certificates and qualifications in the various sports that can be practised there.
