Koblenz tourist information
Koblenz lies at the confluence of two world-famous rivers – the Rhine and the Moselle – and the intersection of four beautiful upland regions. Woods, lakes and meadows account for a full two thirds of the city’s total area, and the climate is mild and very agreeable. Two thousand years of historical heritage are documented at the city’s numerous excellent museums. Koblenz’ famous sights attract visitors from all over the world.
Koblenz's history goes back over 2,000 years. This heritage is particularly visible in the beautiful Old Town with its romantic little squares, winding streets, noble mansions, medieval burgher houses and beautiful old churches. The Kurfürstliches Schloss, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, Schloss Stolzenfels and the Deutsches Eck ("German Corner") with the impressive Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial are all an absolute must for every visitor. Many interesting museums document the great traditions of the past. Boredom is impossible - the annual calendar is packed with fascinating cultural and social events, and you can also choose from a rich selection of entertainment and leisure activities.
Don't miss the opportunity to explore the lovely surrounding countryside - for example a romantic castle tour to Loreley Rock by coach or on the river. For a really unforgettable experience try a plane trip or a flight in a hot-air balloon. There are many famous castles nearby, such as Burg Eltz and the Marksburg. Also worth visiting: the Garden of Living Butterflies, the Eifel region (old volcanic lakes, Maria Laach Abbey) and the Ceramics Museum in the Westerwald.
For visitors the best way to get to know Koblenz is to take a sightseeing tour, available in several languages. One of the most interesting sights is the "Deutsches Eck", or "German Corner", where you will find the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the Kurfürstliches Schloss, the Alte Burg castle, Schloss Stolzenfels and many other historic buildings and monuments. And then there are many Baroque, Gothic and Romanesque churches, such as the basilica of St. Castor. Koblenz has a very beautiful Old Town and a modern city centre with lively pedestrian precincts and one of Europe's biggest shopping centres. Other attractions that contribute to a pleasant and memorable stay include the beautiful Rhine and Moselle parks, a chair lift to the fortress, wine tastings and a wide selection of interesting tours.
