Karlsruhe tourist information
Karlsruhe is a Baden metropolis: a young and hospitable city at the heart of Europe, "pure joie de vivre" in the opinion of those who live there.
It enjoys a splendid situation in the Rhine plain between the mountains of the Palatinate, the Vosges Mountains and the Black Forest ans has a mild climate. It all started, by the way, with a dream. In 1715, the Margrave Karl-Wilhelm was inspired to the fan-shaped layout of the city whilst sleeping, and "Karl's Peace" was created right in the middle of the Hardt Forest, where "Karls was at peace".
And this Grand Ducal Residence has now become an attractive venue for a city holiday. Karlsruhe is neither a paragon of beauty nor a place of great luxury, but rather casual and uncomplicated.
And Karlsruhe is a green city. Where else can you find such a splendid Municipal Park with an attractive zoo between the railway station and the city centre? It is worth spending a day in this city just for the parks alone. Beautiful parks with old trees, well-tended lawns and borders, and the nearby forests lend this city its expansive, tidy apperance.
And Germany's two highest courts of law must not be forgotten: The Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Appeal Court are well-established "residents of Karlsruhe".
Karlsruhe, a very agreeable city, invites you for a stay. For a holiday or for a conference or congress in or around the city which started as a dream....
