Radisson Sas Plaza Hotel description
Welcome to the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel in Berlin - Backed against the River Spree with views of the Berlin Cathedral on the opposite bank, this hotel also faces historical attractions such as Red Town Hall and the Church of St Mary. A turquoise glow from the world's largest cylindrical aquarium suffuses the hotel's eight-story skylighted atrium, and guests also find turquoise water in a wellness center's pool. Guestrooms with high-speed, wireless, and dial-up Internet access and flat-screen TVs promote the hotel's water theme in the form of large prints set into huge dark-wood headboards.
What to expect: Employing minimalist decor beginning with an entrance containing brown-and-red leather seating, the hotel, which opened in 2004, creates a cool, comfortable ambience appropriate to the 21st-century architecture and design that mark the revival of the former East Berlin (Mitte) and provides striking contrast to the 17th- 18th- and 19th-century buildings within Berlin's historical center.
Amenity highlights: The cylindrical aquarium (AquaDom) in the hotel's eight-story atrium is 25 meters (80 feet) high and holds one million liters (264,172 gallons) of seawater and 2,500 tropical fish. An elevator (surcharge) rises through the aquarium's center, providing close-up views. For year-round swimming, a wellness center features an indoor pool with counter-currents for exercise and also includes saunas, a steam room, a small café, and body/facial treatment rooms.

Featuring an 11-by-4.5-meter (35-by-15-foot) indoor pool with optional use of two independently operated counter-currents, the hotel's wellness center also includes a tanning bed (solarium), a Finnish sauna, a "bio sauna," which is cooler and less dry than a Finnish sauna, an aromatherapy steam room, a relaxation room, women's and men's locker rooms, and a coffee, tea, and juice bar that also serves milk shakes, beer, champagne, salads, and sandwiches. The wellness center offers massage, reflexology, facials, body scrubs, body wraps, manicures, and makeup.

The hotel offers 427 guestrooms in an eight-story building. Step-out balconies provide views of the atrium housing the hotel's giant cylindrical aquarium or the city. Bedding features down comforters and pillows in polished-cotton covers. Other amenities include 20-inch flat-screen televisions, three telephones (one in bathroom), and high-speed, wireless, and dial-up Internet access (surcharges).
Decor and furnishings feature enameled robin's-egg-blue furniture with dark-wood accents, desks with orange chairs and matching orange reading chairs, glass coffee tables, and huge dark-wood headboards with brown-leather head-rests. Water-theme prints are hung above desks.

Atrium Lobby Lounge & Bar - Semi-circular bar below giant cylindrical aquarium. Circular wood booths lined in tan leather. Salads, sandwiches, burgers, cocktails, coffee drinks, champagne. Open from morning to midnight.
Aqua Lounge & Bar - Social areas with leather seating separated by milk-glass partitions. Soft lighting. Purple walls. Open for sushi, light Asian dishes, specialty teas, and cocktails. Adjacent cigar lounge with suede seating.
