Valbonne tourist information
Well hidden by the hills that surrounds it, a few kilometres away from Cannes and Antibes, Valbonne is a pleasant climatic resort. Even although it was only created during the 16th century, it has be occupied since Antiquity. The present Valbonne Church is an abbey of the order of Chalais, created in 1199 and has been restored in Roman style.
The chequered layout of the village is the work of the monks of Lérins who reconstructed this area. It is rather difficult to get lost in its slightly steep streets. In the centre of the village, the remarkable "Place de Arcades" can be found. It is surrounded by houses with archways under which many paved passages can still be found. On this square, Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan was filmed in Lawrence Kasdan's "French Kiss".
Opposite the Town Hall, an old fountain and a watering place can be found. "Le Moulin des Artisans", rue de la Paroisse, is at the same time a gallery and a studio where the glass maker Lourmani can be seen at work.
Not too far from Valbonne the technopolis of Sophia Antipolis can be found (refer to the column "places not to be missed".
