As it vies with the great châteaux of the Loire, who would guess that Château d’Artigny is a 20th-century tribute to a penniless Corsican orphan who went onto become a newspaper proprietor, politician and parfumier His name was François Coty, and it is sad that he never lived to see his concept completed. Its extravagance belongs to an earlier age.
The château was always intended as a palace of indulgence; and so it is, with a 65-acre estate, formal gardens, opulent drawing and dining rooms, gourmet food, palatial bedrooms, and cellars containing over 20,000 wines mainly from the Loire region.
