Hostellerie Le Maréchal is a 16th-century hotel in Colmar, Alsace, set in the picturesque old quarter of the town known as Little Venice, and tucked behind tiny, cobbled streets and past half-timbered buildings. If this 16th-century hotel, with its gables, dark beams and crooked tiles, is a window onto the Middle Ages, then its interior is a reprise of the reigns of Kings Louis XV and XVI. Superbly placed to discover the historical heritage of Colmar, Hostellerie Le Maréchal is also an ideal base from which to follow the Alsace wine route. Period art, décor and furniture follow you up winding staircases, along intricate passages and into Hostellerie Le Maréchal's 30 lavish bedrooms and suites. Expect gilt candelabra, Louis XV clocks, and huge four-poster, or canopied, double beds. The wonderland does not end there. In the hotel's 'A l'Echevin' Restaurant Gastronomic, you find quintessentially Alsatian cuisine: from goose liver paté with apple jam, fresh lobster from the hotel's pond to Alsatian squab.
