Some criticize the restoration, I think it was necessary and I'm glad it was done. INCREDIBLE! Another don't miss! Reading about the Cathars and the Albigensian Crusade will enhance your visit. A great place to raom around the old streets and marvel at the fortifications.

Carcassone is a very interesting destination. The old City is evryone's fantasy of Middle Ages architectureand the "new" town has all the amenities one would expect. The surrounding countryside can be very pretty with lots of small villages and hamlets.
