Mentioned into 808, "Barbitione Villare". Small village of loggers where, to 19th came to be established painters landscape designers (Theodore Rousseau, Millet, Corot, Daubigny, Ziem) who gave birth has an artistic movement, the School of Barbizon, characterized by the rediscovery of nature and the rural life. Commune since 1903.
