Take a bite of the Big Apple
Everyone knows about New York, and everyone knows the names of the biggest attractions too, whether they’ve been or not. Basically, this is a city that is huge and bustling, and if you want to get the most out of it then you need to focus your time on what you want to see, doing a little research first.
If you want to visit the New York attractions to the best of your ability, then it’s time to hit the internet and figure out what it is that interests you the most. This is a city which doesn’t sleep, quite literally, and if you’re wandering around aimlessly then you’re not going to get to see much at all other than the back of a yellow taxi and the huge skyscrapers above you.
When you think of New York, what first comes to your mind? For many it would be what they have seen in the films, and for me it would probably be Central Park, brought to mind from watching far too many episodes of Friends over the last 20 years or so!
The Empire State Building is one of the most iconic buildings in the world, and checking out the view from the vantage point is something everyone should see at least once. This is a sight your camera probably won’t even pick up compared to what your eyes see. On top of this you have the Statue of Liberty, and come on, who hasn’t got an image of Lady Liberty when they think of New York?
Many people don’t realise that when you visit the Statue of Liberty you can actually explore the museum which stands at the bottom too, giving you information and history on the migrants who travelled over to the free world all those years ago. This is quite a sombre and inspiring story.
Want more? Rockefeller Center is another building to give you views like no other, and is another huge skyscraper, dominating the New York skyline.
If you want something a little more peaceful, then Central Park is for you. I mentioned this earlier, but many people don’t realise how big it is. It’s quite strange to think of something so quiet and peaceful in the middle of such a bustling city, but this is almost like heading out into the countryside, literally seconds from the bustling metropolis. You’ll find biking trails, walking trails, lakes, wildlife, all sorts literally, within this huge green space which is one of the must visits when you head to New York.
If you’re visiting at New Year then Times Square is the place to be without a doubt. The New Year ball drop is one of the most iconic celebrations and is televised the world over, so don’t miss this one, however you will find crowds with a capital C!
As a final note, New York is also a cultural city too, and there are many museums to check out. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most famous in the world, and if you head there early in the day, you should be able to walk around and explore without too much in the way of queues.
New York is packed with things to see and do, and this is why you need to give your visit plenty of thought before you jump on that plane.
