Comment: ACCOMMODATION VERY POORLY MAINTAINED, TIRED & IN NEED OF UPDATING!!! The gutters had fully grown weeds and plants growing out of them, they obviously had not ever been cleared of any debris. FACILITIES We were looking to unwind in the heated indoor pool, but our arrival at reception, I made enquiries about the pool and was informed by the receptionist that the there had been a problem the night before and it was now out of use. On our inspection, it seemed evident to us that it had been closed for some considerable time. Our booking was from the Saturday through to the Monday but not once was the swimming pool open for use. BAR AREA & TV ROOM The hotel appears to be mainly used for wedding functions. This can at times, especially during the week-end period lead to the bar area and TV areas being quite hectic and uncomfortable. I am also of the opinion that if you are a normal paying guest not within any of the wedding parties you do tend to feel surplus to requirements. This was evident when it came to our food and wine orders during our stay. It appeared that wedding party guests seemed to be given priority when it came to eating and drinking within the hotel. EXECUTIVE QUALITY ROOM This did not meet up to our requirements, I booked an Executive Room expecting something a little bit special. Our room was in great need of a makeover, it was dated, tired and oppressive. The walls were clad with a pine log effect that was a great dust trap and dust was evident in places. The ceiling and most of the surfaces were pine clad also. The lighting in our room was very poor. In all, this gave the effect of a very dark depressing room, especially when the sun was shining outside. The soft furnishings were dark blue and showed a spectacular display of s thick layer of white dust on the pelmet area which obviously had not been cleaned since the day they were hung. To the side of our room there were wooden stairs leading up to the second floor and whenever people were walking up them it could be quite noisy. GALLERIED LAKESIDE RESTAURANT We were led to our table in the dining room and it was placed directly under the pine staircase. Therefore every time people were being seated upstairs or the waiter/waitress staff were taking food orders upstairs on the mezzanine level you could hear the clump, clump, clump of everyone going up and down the stairs, which did not do anything for the ambiance of our evening meal! FOOD & WINE We ordered an elaborately named pasta dish, which also had an elaborate price tag. The waiter returned after we had eaten our starter to inform us that the ribboned pasta we had ordered as a main course was no longer available but that it could be replaced with pasta shells if we so wished. Having already started our meal we decided to make do with the pasta shells. However, on its arrival, it was quite clearly boiled pasta shells with a well known pasta sauce poured around the edge of the plate with a light shaving of cheese in the middle. This is a dish I have often made at home for approximately £2 but we were charged £13.95 per person for this dish! We requested a certain medium sweet wine but was informed by the waiter they no longer had this in stock, he said it had all been consumed at a recent wedding party, we asked for nearest medium sweet that he could recommend but it was not very palatable! At breakfast time, after a considerable wait, I had to ask for my coffee as all the staff were chatting around a curtained area and not really taking much notice as to their clientele. Having taken a sip of coffee from my cup I noticed it had a rather large chip in the drinking area. The breakfast list clearly stated a continental or full English breakfast. However, there were no croissants out on display. Upon requesting for them we were told they had not received a delivery for them that day! WHY I CHOSE THE CHEVIN COUNTRY PARK HOTEL It was my husband’s 50th Birthday and I had hired a classic car for the week-end from a reputable company based in Otley and wanted a good hotel close to the car hire company, upon checking the internet pages on Chevin Country Park Hotel I thought this would be the perfect hotel and the rooms shown look very bright and airy and it looked as though it had all the facilities we would need. We are quite well travelled and although the surroundings of this hotel are very nice, I am of the opinion that it is in need of an extensive clean, overhaul and makeover.
