Comment: We stayed at the Old Swan Hotel on 29 and 30 of October 2004. it was my wife and sister inlaws birthday treats. all I can say is the hotel was a dump to say the least. the rooms are from £39.00 to £110.00. we paid £98.00 per night per room, I dread to think what the £39.00 rooms are like, but ours was dingy, smelled of damp, wallpaper was falling off and the ensuite bathroom was filthy with mould all around the tiles and silicon sealant that looked like it had been thrown on from the front entrance. my brothers room was on a different floor and they had to shower early in the morning otherwise there was no hot water left. the service and staff with the exception of the head waiter were all miserable, cant blame them at least i could go home at the end of the weekend. we complained to the reception but all they could say was we are undergoing renervations....well that is not good enough. I am a health and safety professional and if i was to audit this hotel through my proffession I am sure I would close some of the rooms until they met the standards of a civilised society. £98.00 rip off.

Comment: We stayed at the Old Swan Hotel over the August bank holiday weekend after booking over the internet. Reviews we saw were very complimentary. But to us it was deeply disappointing. Parts of the hotel haven't been maintained since it was built. Much of the wooden trim including the window frames is rotten to the core. Windows are screwed shut because they are so dangerously rotted. Tiles have slipped causing water damage internally. Our room was up in the roof space, dark and dingy. The en-suite bathroom was disgusting and probably dangerous. The rotten window was thick in black mould. The bathroom suite was the original and not in the best of condition after decades of use. The bath mat was filthy. Despite this seediness, the prices they were charging were outrageous. A glass of wine and a vodka and tonic in the bar came to £9.50. We took our drinks outside to watch the wedding that was taking place and sat at a table. The sound of running water behind us turned out to be the water waste from the bar discharging onto the terrace because the pipe was broken. The whole place was terribly run down. I can't see any company being prepared to invest the huge sums of money required to bring this place us to the most basic of standards. Best thing would be to blow it up.
