Falmouth tourist information

An historic maritime town, now home to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Pendennis Castle and it’s twin at St Mawes, (EH) built by Henry VIII, guard this third largest natural harbour in the world, and the town was once home the famous Packet Ships . These ships sailed to the far reaches of the British Empire to deliver mail and bring back, amongst other things, the exotic plants that now flourish in the many gardens in and around the town and those on the steep slopes of the Helford River. The town hosts major international watersports events and is a renowned haven for sailing. The town’s regatta week is held annually at the beginning of August has now become a major community event combining sailing with the town at large. The four day Oyster Festival is held in October, and a three day festival of literature and arts takes place in September. The new and rather special Park and Float scheme takes a new twist on park and ride – you can park your car and then take a relaxing boat trip down river to the National Maritime Museum. Amongst other places to visit include a fun pool/leisure centre, ten pin bowling, sports club with visitor membership and Princess Pavilions entertainment venue.
